National Coalition of Diaspora and Allies Call on Puerto Rico Republican Candidates Jenniffer González, William Villafañe and their Statehood Trump Enablers to Pick Sides
Washington, DC – In response to Republican “comedian” Tony Hinchliffe’s disgusting and outrageous statement today, calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at the opening of a Trump rally in New York City, the Power 4 Puerto Rico coalition released the following statement:
“Puerto Rico is a Latin American, Caribbean nation of more than 9 million proud people. More than half of us call the United States home and are inextricably linked to our loved ones in the island, which is a U.S. colony. The bigoted insults hurled at Puerto Ricans today show once again how Donald Trump feels about boricuas. He has called us dirty, corrupt and threatened to trade us like a piece of cattle to Denmark in exchange for Greenland during his term in the White House. This is one more example of why a second Trump term is unacceptable and dangerous for Puerto Ricans and Americans alike, and we call on all eligible Puerto Rican voters to register and vote this November to demand the respect we deserve at the ballot box.
“We also call on Puerto Rico pro-statehood Republican candidates for Governor and Resident Commissioner in Congress, Jenniffer González and William Villafañe – as well as their ‘Democratic’ enablers in the island’s elite, to pick sides. They are either with Puerto Ricans or against our gente. They cannot be with both.
“As the election on the island also approaches, we urge our relatives there to remember which politicians stood with the MAGA autocratic racists that constantly attack Puerto Ricans and vote with us in mind as we will vote with you in our hearts this November.”
